Aligning VET curricula to Greening and the Sustainable (GreenVET4SDG)https://greenvet4sdg.eu

The project is seen to address: Development of relevant and high-quality skills and competences and also Further strengthening key competences in VET as well as Sustainable investment, performance and efficiency.

  1. Development of relevant and high-quality skills and competences: supporting individuals in acquiring and developing basic skills and key competences in Greening, in order to foster employability and socio-educational and personal development. This priority will include, among others, actions to develop partnerships between learning institutions, businesses and intermediary bodies, to improve the quality and effectiveness of VET learning experiences. The project will also support actions that develop or disseminate tools for the assessment of such competences, as well as actions that apply “learning outcomes”-based approaches in education, training and youth activities or assess their quality, impact and relevance.
  2. Further strengthening key competences in initial and continuing VET, introducing and/or sustaining Greening related competences in curricula, as well as for acquiring, delivering and assessing the learning outcomes of those curricula.
  3. The project will also address sustainable investment, performance and efficiency by looking also at the economic implications of Greening as a sustainable investment. Intellectual Output 6 (Greening the Campus) aims to instill Greening impetus in students, staff and communities.

A number of these SDG’s are directly or indirectly linked to Vocational Education and Training (VET). VET must therefore play a fundamental role in helping, sustaining and contributing to the SDG’s such as the following:

SDG 4 – Quality Education

SDG 7 – Affordable and clean energy

SDG 11 -Sustainable cities and communities

SDG 12 -Responsible consumption and production

SDG 13 – Climate Action

SDG 14 – Life below water

SDG 15 – Life on land

Apart from this, the project has a direct influence on employability, both in the short and long term, since the relevance of Greening in various jobs and careers has become very important in the world today. The inclusion of training sessions (in the form of cross-European traineeships) are an integral part of the project.

Project partners –

Duration of the project: September 2018 – September 2021

Description of the project: The idea for this project is that we are living in a world that has become more and more conscious of the Greening issues and the environment, but yet there still exists a disconnect between Greening and VET. And this is happening in spite of the fact that both Greening and VET are strongly linked to numerous policies of the EU and most of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as identified by the United Nations Development Programme for the year 2030.

The international partners in this project come from four European countries and each partner brings in a unique field of expertise that will contribute to the overall project outcome. The project has a number of objectives:

  1. To raise awareness of the Greening issues across all VET disciplines and link them to the SDG priorities;
  2. To disseminate knowledge and deliver relevant accredited training related to Greening;
  3. To include Greening across all VET curricula through the design, development and deployment of an accredited module that can be included in any VET course curriculum or else taken separately and independently;
  4. To up-skill and prepare VET teachers in the Greening and environmental issues;
  5. To outreach, provide relevant information, provide practical examples and involve all VET learners and the local communities in Greening.

The target groups of this project are:

  1. VET Learners – VET students are the primary target group of this project as the project aims to reach out to them and to provide them with Greening related exposure and training that would benefit them in their employability skills as well as members of the community they live in.
  2. VET Teachers – VET Teachers will be targeted by involving them in the design and development of the accredited training module about Greening. The teachers will also be provided with a tool-box to enable them to deliver the Greening related training in the most effective manner.
  3. The Communities – The ultimate beneficiaries of the project are the communities as they improve in their understanding of Greening issues, they benefit from the job and employment opportunities created through Greening initiatives.
